About the founder

Meet James Berry

Berry Smart Homes was founded by James Berry to bring professionally engineered smart home systems to homeowners across Norfolk and Suffolk.

After years working with technology and automation, I became frustrated by smart home products that were difficult to maintain and relied heavily on cloud services.

Berry Smart Homes was created to deliver professionally engineered, local-first smart homes that homeowners can rely on every day.

Frequently asked questions

Questions before getting started.

What is Home Assistant?

Home Assistant is an open smart home platform that brings compatible devices and services together into one central system. It supports local control and avoids unnecessary dependence on a single manufacturer.

Can you use smart devices I already own?

Often, yes. Compatibility will be assessed before quotation. Existing equipment that is unsupported, unreliable or cloud-dependent may require replacement or have limitations.

Do your systems continue working without the internet?

Local-first features can continue operating without internet access, although some manufacturer applications, cloud services, remote access and voice features may require connectivity.

Is hardware included?

The Berry Smart Hub Basic, Plus and AI Elite packages include the core computer, Zigbee coordinator and the devices listed within each package. The Customer Provides Computer package is a labour-only service and requires suitable customer-owned hardware.

Are heating, CCTV and smart-lighting products included?

Compatible customer-owned heating controls, CCTV systems and smart-lighting products can be assessed for integration. New smart bulbs, wall switches, heating controls, cameras, recording equipment and associated installation work are not included unless shown in the quotation.

Can I add more sensors or smart plugs?

Yes. Additional compatible sensors, smart plugs and other devices can be supplied and installed at additional cost. The property survey and quotation will confirm suitable quantities and locations.

What happens after installation?

Unless your quotation states otherwise, installations include 30 calendar days of reasonable post-installation support relating directly to the agreed work.

Where do you work?

Berry Smart Homes normally provides on-site installations across Norfolk and Suffolk. Other locations may be considered by separate quotation.
